Still have questions?
A WHV insurance plan is a coverage solution dedicated to young travelers going abroad with a Working Holiday Visa. This insurance usually covers medical expenses, repatriation, third-party liability, and often personal effects during your stay abroad.
To find a WHV insurance plan that offers a great price-quality ratio, several criteria should be considered:
- Reimbursement limits must be high, in particular for medical care, which can be very expensive in some countries (such as Japan or Australia, for example).
- Fast claims processing and the absence of waiting periods (i.e., getting reimbursed immediately, without having to wait), especially if you’re traveling on a budget!
- Then, make sure to read carefully the general terms and conditions of your insurance plan, as certain high-risk occupational or sports activities may be excluded.
- “Personal” third-party liability, which covers damage you may cause to a third party, can be very useful during your working holiday!
- You can also check whether your plan offers digital services: mobile app, online platform to submit your claims, etc. It makes life easier!
The best time to take out WHV insurance depends on your destination! Some countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, require an insurance certificate when submitting your visa application. You must take out insurance at this stage. For other destinations, such as South Korea and Hong Kong, you can purchase insurance after obtaining your visa.
You should also consider the period of coverage of your plan: it can usually start on the exact date of your departure or as soon as you arrive in your country of destination. If necessary, with MSH, you can be covered as early as the day after your enrollment.
In all cases, take out your WHV insurance before leaving France, regardless of your working holiday destination, even if you are transiting through another country.
Start the process 2 to 4 weeks before your desired start date of coverage so that you have enough time to receive your insurance certificate, an essential document for your stay abroad.
The price of the neoWHV health insurance plan depends on your country of destination, in particular, on the local healthcare costs and health risks.
Insurance for destinations such as Canada or Australia is usually more expensive due to the high cost of healthcare, whereas some European countries generally offer more affordable rates.
The duration of your working holiday program (up to 36 months in certain countries), the package you choose, and your age also determine the final price of your insurance plan. Please note that benefiting from comprehensive coverage under a high-quality insurance plan requires paying higher premiums. In the event of an accident, you’ll immediately see the difference.
The choice of your WHV insurance mainly depends on your destination and your specific needs:
- Canada and New Zealand require mandatory insurance when applying for a visa, with regular controls upon entry into the territory.
- In Australia, things are different: although private insurance isn’t mandatory, we strongly recommend that you take out insurance with high coverage limits, as healthcare is very expensive (up to AUD 150 for a consultation with a general practitioner).
- As for Japan, no proof of insurance is required to obtain a visa.
Regardless of the country in which you’ll be traveling for your working holiday, we recommend that you choose a plan covering high medical expenses and medical repatriation to benefit from the best possible coverage in the event of an emergency and from benefits equivalent to those provided by French Social Security.
To enjoy your stay to the fullest, also make sure that your insurance plan covers your sports activities, provides third-party liability and complies with the working holiday visa requirements of your country of destination.
Any individual of any nationality between the ages of 18 and 35 (inclusive) living in France at the time of purchase and going to Chile, Australia, New Zealand or any eligible country for a working holiday program can take out our neoWHV insurance plan.
You will be the only person covered under the plan and will not be able to add any dependents. If you go abroad with friends or your partner, each person holding a working holiday visa must take out their own WHV insurance so that everyone is properly covered and receives their own reimbursements.
If you are a victim of a skydiving accident, for example, or your GoPro is stolen, or you injure someone while cooking, neoPVT can cover you.
You can take out a WHV insurance plan from 1 to 12 months. The plan is not automatically renewed. To continue benefiting from your coverage during your stay abroad, you will have to take out another plan. Please note that this coverage is significantly more comprehensive than that provided with your credit card and will cover you in the event of an accident, health issues, or theft of your smart devices.
You can take out the neoWHV plan directly on the MSH website in just a few minutes. Fill out the dates of your stay, your country of destination, your personal data and then proceed to secure payment by credit card. No supporting documents or paperwork needed to enroll!
Then, you will be immediately emailed a “Welcome pack” containing your insurance plan and certificate. You will also receive your practical guide (which includes information on your plan, your benefits, access to your online Members’ Area and the mobile app to submit your claims and precertification requests, for example).
Please note that the neoWHV product has been underwritten by the ASFE association. As a result, when you enroll in this plan, you first become a member of the ASFE association.
After enrolling in your neoWHV insurance plan, you will be emailed all the documents you need. If you cannot find them, you can contact your claims department (by email, phone or via the messaging service of your Members’ Area) to ask for a copy. An electronic version of your insurance card is also available online in your Members’ Area and via the MSH Mobile App.
Have you received everything? You’re all set—All you need to do now is book your flights!
